C5 Forum Provides Great Benefits for EU-Brazil Connection

Detroit, MI — June 20, 2013 Sandler & Travis Trade Advisory Services (STTAS) presented at the 8th annual C5 Advanced Forum on Global Customs Compliance, held in Brussels, Belgium on May 22 and 23. The C5 Forum is the largest of its kind in Belgium and featured top experts in government, executive and legal positions from around the globe.

“This event presented a great opportunity for STTAS Brazil to better understand the European customs industry,” said STTAS Brazil Executive Director Cesar Finotti. “It allowed us to strengthen the STTAS brand in Europe while developing relations with focal points for trade by engaging with both government and private representatives present at the event.”

Finotti, along with STTAS Brazil Manager of Customs and Trade Advisory Services Fernanda Herrmann, focused on creating an understanding of the multifaceted Brazilian customs system during their presentation. They covered techniques for managing public documents in the local language, current regional regimes for classification, optimizing tax benefits, understanding the six methods for determining customs valuation and documents required to avoid a customs value investigation or dispute.

“Understanding the basic customs and trade regulations, programs and procedures that affect imports into Brazil are essential for ensuring compliance and efficiency in Brazilian operations,” Finotti said. “This event also allowed the opportunity for STTAS Brazil to understand the compliance requirements throughout emerging markets and the trade flows between these countries.”

The forum also focused on educating companies on the complex customs requirements they face when importing goods into Russia and other members of the Commonwealth of Independent States, China, India, the Middle East and Turkey.
